Thomas Hutter: From Social Media Pioneer to AI Entrepreneur

After 16 years at the helm of Hutter Consult, the entrepreneur is drawing a line under it and launching a new company in the field of artificial intelligence.

Aadorf - Thomas Hutter developed one of the leading agencies in social media and digital marketing from a one-man business. Now, he is consistently looking forward, dedicating himself to the opportunities of artificial intelligence with a new company. In the interview, he reflects on the beginnings, speaks openly about challenges and personal sacrifices, and explains why one thing above all drives him: the urge to constantly break new ground.

Regi die Neue: You founded Hutter Consult alone in 2009 - what was your biggest motivation back then?

Thomas Hutter: I saw Facebook as the next big thing on the horizon, while my agency colleagues in Zurich at the time collectively looked away. When ignorance meets innovation stagnation, the only option is a leap into freedom. The fact that my ex-wife almost simultaneously informed me that I was going to be a father added the necessary existential pressure to the whole situation. There was no Plan B, only the way forward.

After 16 years, you're now calling it quits. What was the decisive moment for this step?

The sale to the MYTY Group in 2021 was the strategic precursor, and the merger with SiR MaRY at the end of 2025 was the logical conclusion. When the biggest challenge is merely managing structures instead of moving markets, the game loses its appeal for me. I need new territory, not a comfortable armchair in a stable hierarchy.

You speak of the stark reality of entrepreneurship. What is the most important lesson from it?

Entrepreneurship is a constant balancing act at the limit of endurance. You bear full responsibility for people who often show you little gratitude, and you defend your vision against a circle of friends who consider work-life balance a fundamental right. The most important realization: You must learn that sacrifice is the price of freedom, and you have to renegotiate that price every single day.

Your company grew organically - how difficult is it to succeed without external investors?

Bootstrapping is the hard school of financial discipline. Those who build without external money learn to make every franc count before investing it wisely. Sure, with investors, you grow faster, but you often sell your soul and voting rights along with it. Organic growth is healthier: it forces you to excellence because you cannot afford mistakes at the expense of others.

You also mention personal sacrifices like a divorce. How much does entrepreneurship impact personal life?

Massively. Anyone who claims they can leave work at the door is usually lying. Mentally, I was always "on," physically often absent, and emotionally usually focused on the next project. Without the unconditional support of my ex-wife, this house of cards would have collapsed long ago. Divorce is often the price the system demands for relentless focus.

Looking back: What would you do differently today?

Business-wise, I should have found the courage to scale sooner and gotten assistance more quickly to avoid getting lost in operational minutiae. Personally, I would try to give more substance to the word "balance" instead of just viewing it as a theoretical concept.

What role did criticism and opposition play on your journey?

For me, headwinds are the best fuel. Over the years, I've learned to distinguish very precisely between constructive criticism and the mere noise of envy. Criticism forces you to reflect; envy is simply confirmation that you're doing something right. Both have prevented me from burying my head in the sand.

You are now starting anew with AIghty20 Elevate AG. What is the goal of this new company?

We are facing the biggest transformation since the Industrial Revolution. AI will turn everything upside down, but most entrepreneurs are still like rabbits caught in headlights. AIghty20 Elevate is the answer: We help companies radically rethink efficiency and growth through automation and AI. I see massive parallels to the early social media days, only this time the leverage is many times greater.

What drives you to start over again and again instead of retiring?

At 50, I'm at my intellectual peak, not put out to pasture. Financially, I might not need to work anymore, but my drive isn't money; it's the desire to create and build. I'm a businessman through and through. It would be a complete waste not to invest my knowledge and experience in the next big wave. Retirement sounds like stagnation to me, and stagnation is the death of every entrepreneur.
